An artist's hideaway on the West Coast of Scotland:
space to rest and think, surrounded by nature.
Find a moment of calm at our peaceful, down-to-earth place in beautiful Moidart.

We can't promise blue skies every day, but the weather and tides bring ever-changing conditions.

It's the perfect opportunity to re-align yourself with the rhythms of the natural world. Listen for the tawny owls calling at night and bees humming in their hives nearby. Even the wind and rain can sound glorious from the comfort of your cosy retreat!

A short walk brings you to rare pockets of Atlantic oak woods, our precious coastal temperate rainforest. Enjoy the richness and diversity of lichens, bryophytes and other species, look out for otters, eagles, seals and deer, and take in the spectacular views to the isles and mountains.

Retreat, re-connect, gather your inspiration and energy!

Who is it for?

Are you a creative who works with people, perhaps finding it difficult to sustain your own spark?
Do you feel driven to generate output whatever the cost to your energy and wellbeing?
Do you need some time and space away from your day-to-day life, close to nature, just to pause and re-set?

If these descriptions resonate, this is for you! We offer self-directed artist residencies here, involving stays of either 7 or 14 days, in spring and autumn.

This is an opportunity for you to recoup your creative energies. Exchange of ideas, skills or artworks are very welcome but not essential, there's no pressure to create a body of work or meet deadlines.

We host up to four of these residencies each year, partially supported by donations from our summer holiday guests. If you are interested, please get in touch to request an information pack.

Please note: to travel here by car takes 2.5 hours from Inverness, or 3.5 hours from Glasgow (longer by train or bus).

"Coming up from my busy life in Glasgow, I don't have a lot of time or space there for soaking up nature or being creative myself! This was just what I needed, and I feel so refreshed!"

The Caravan

Nestled between woodland, hillside and garden is our much loved and well preserved vintage caravan.

It's a comfortable bolt-hole for one or two people.

There are two cosy bedrooms, a living room with a log burner and dining/work table, a well equipped kitchen with cooker and fridge, and a compact bathroom with shower.

A self-contained, private space just a few steps from the studio and house, accessed via a separate entrance and gate. Extra comforts include Wifi, electric blankets, and fresh free-range eggs.

The Studio

Sometimes we need to cease activity altogether to allow fresh ideas to surface. But, after a deep rest, the creative spark will often rekindle.

Get back into your flow in a stimulating and supportive setting.
Develop ideas, sit by the wood stove, rest, read, and make art.

Space in the studio can be booked by arrangement. Facilities include a large central work table, desk, chairs, drying rack, easels, sink with hot and cold running water, electricity, kettle, and wifi.

Outdoor work space can also be made available. Get in touch to discuss your needs and what we can offer.

The Hut

Nestled amongst the birch trees with a view of the loch and mountain, this "room of one's own" is inspired by traditional shepherds' huts and mountain bothies. Hand built by Leon making use of reclaimed and natural materials, it's an off-grid haven for those craving a simple life close to nature, just big enough for one or two people.

APOLOGIES, THE HUT IS NOT AVAILABLE AT PRESENT
